Here we are in our final term - Summer Term 2. A term full of lots of exciting activities, learning and visits. It is also a little sad as we bid a fond farewell to our lovely Wrens who come to the end of their first year here at Bemerton St John.

Our learning this term is entitled:

'From the tiny ant...'

New Forest Wildlife Park

We visited the New Forest Wildlife Park to find out about animals that are native to this country and animals that are endangered. We had an amazing day and with the help of Laila - a guide who works with the animals, we found out lots of information and were able to share what we already know.

Take a look at the gallery to see what we got up to!

We arrived at the Park and were met by Laila. The first animals we saw were butterflies, ferrets,a hedgehog, a harvest mouse and badgers (who were asleep in their set).

We then saw a snowy owl, a barn owl, otters, a pine martin, deer and bison.

And of course, there is always time for a play and some lunch...

A final explore in the afternoon took us to the wallabies, wild boar, lynx and wolves. A lovely day with some very tired children by the end.

Thank you to our lovely helpers who made it possible for us to do this trip.

Welcome back to the Summer Term. Our learning this term is entitled:

'Out and About'

Grovelly Woods

4 Wrens were selected to join other children from our cluster school for a day at Grovelly Woods. We had lots of learning fun!

For those of you who missed our Mother's Day celebration....

Toy Story

Happy New Year! Please click here to see our curriculum map.

Old Toys, New Toys

On Wednesday 3rd February Mrs Wagstaff, one of our school Governors, kindly came in to share some of her old toys with us. She told us how old some of them are (nearly 100 years old!) and we tried to identify what material the toys were made from. We compared them to the new toys that we have and thought about what toys we have now that children years ago did not have.

We have been invaded!

As part of our learning about materials we enjoyed making robots with Wiltshire Scrap Store. They are an environmental charity who collect materials that would normally go to landfill and re-use them for creative projects. We had a fun, messy morning creating some amazing robots.

'Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic...'

We invited our teddies to come to school for the day. We wrote invitations, made name labels for them (so they wouldn't get lost!), painted textured pictures of them and had a picnic. Here are a few pictures from our fun day.

Let's Celebrate!

Marvellous Me!

Welcome to our first term together. Please click here to see our curriculum map.

We have been developing our listening skills. We went on a welly walk and listened carefully to sounds in the outdoor environment and used our 'big ears' to help us identify what the sounds were.

Baby Clinic Role-Play and Baby Visit

We have been learning about how we grow and change over time. We developed a baby clinic and the children developed their understanding of how to take care of babies and their needs. The children took on the roles of parents, nurses, doctors, receptionists and health visitors.

To support our understanding of the needs of babies, Mrs Hood brought baby Henry, who is 10 weeks old, in to visit us. We asked lots of questions about what he can do, what he eats and what he likes and doesn't like. He needed his nappy changed which was a real treat for us all!

Thank you Baby Henry for coming to visit.

Our Autumn Welly Walk

We took advantage of the lovely hazy Autumn days and went on a welly walk around the school environment. We were looking for signs of Autumn. We noticed the changing colours of the leaves and collected conkers and their cases. We came back to class and created Autumn art pictures.

Harvest

Thank you to everyone who brought in contributions for the Harvest Table. The Trussell Trust were very appreciative of all the food that was donated and will help many local families who are in need.

We used the story of The Little Red Hen (click on the title for a version of the story) to find out where bread comes from. We enjoyed re-enacting the story and using the magnifying glasses to look closely at the sheaves of wheat and the grains of wheat. We tried grinding the grains to create our own flour. Here we are mixing our ingredients and kneading the dough. When the Hen asked who will help to make the bread, we all answered, "We will!"

Hopefully, the children all enjoyed tasting their own bread rolls too!

Happy half-term Wrens. We hope that you have a good rest and come back next term full of energy for our learning entitled: Let's Celebrate!
