As a special treat, Floss, our phoneme fairy, organised an ‘Alien Party’ for us as we have all worked so hard preparing for our phonics quizzes.  We were all very excited when we arrived at school to see balloons outside of our classroom.   We ate some yummy jelly and decorated aliens.  A huge thank you to Floss!

On Wednesday we all traveled to Marwell Zoo.  We had a fantastic day and learnt lots of new facts about the animals.  We saw tigers, cheetahs, giraffes, flamingos, penguins, rhinos, zebras and ostriches to name just a few!  We attended a workshop called ‘Fur, Feathers and Scales’ and met a rat called Al.  Have a look at some of our pictures below.

Our topic for terms 3 and 4 is 'A Step Back in Time.'

Thank you to all of the parents that came to our Phonics Workshop.  We hope you enjoyed the afternoon and found it helpful.  We loved sharing some of our phonics games with you.  Please click here to view the presentation.  We hope you have fun with the resources.  If you need any more resources or have any questions, then please pop in and see Miss Williamson.

We had a super morning visiting Salisbury Library.  We learnt how to take books and explored the different areas of the library.  We listened to a dinosaur story and had a look at old maps that showed us where the old Salisbury train station was.  After an action packed morning, we finally strolled back to school in the glorious sunshine.  A big thank you to everyone at Salisbury Library for having us!

What a treat!  As part of our art curriculum we enjoyed making dinosaurs with Wiltshire Scrap Store.  They are an environmental charity who collect materials that would normally go to landfill and re-use them for creative projects.  We had a super afternoon and we created some amazing dinosaurs.  We hope the dinosaurs behave themselves in their new homes!

We have been busy writing invitations to our families inviting them to attend our ‘Phonics Workshop’ on Thursday 12th March at 2:45pm.  We look forward to seeing you.

Over the past few weeks we have been celebrating ‘Fair Trade Fortnight.’  We have been learning about Fair Trade by sorting and finding Fair Trade foods and creating our own Fair Trade logos.  We have also made three huge bananas using tissue paper.  Have a look at the pictures below.

Today we have celebrated World Book Day.  We all came dressed as our favourite book character.  During the afternoon we looked at a book called ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ by Oliver Jeffers.  Miss Williamson set us the challenge of drawing a picture but we had to use every single crayon.  Yesterday we had Kristina Stephenson in to visit us who is the author of the ‘Sir Charlie Stinky Socks’ books.  We had a fantastic morning! We retold one of her books and learnt a funny song about green beans.  Have a look at our pictures below.

It’s hatched!  Our egg finally hatched and out popped a baby dinosaur.  We have named him ‘Rory.’  Miss Williamson even recorded the Mummy and Daddy dinosaur in our classroom!  It was amazing.  We wrote instructions explaining how to look after Rory.  Here are some of our ideas that we wrote about when writing our instructions:

  • A bedtime story and sticky kisses
  • A cosy warm bed
  • A lead so that we could take him for walks
  • Delicious meat to eat
  • Shampoo and conditioner

Today we found something very exciting in the school garden.  Floss our Phoneme Fairy wrote a letter to us explaining that when she fluttered over the school garden during half term, she spotted something very round and large.  So we set out to the school garden and discovered a huge egg in a nest and large footprints!  We carefully carried the egg inside and we made a soft, warm nest for it.  Watch this space to see what happens next!

Over the last few weeks of term, we have been preparing and training for the schools Intra Netball Tournament.  We competed in our school houses and we played a game called ‘Rollerball’ with Swallows.  We showed great sportsmanship and demonstrated our brilliant ball skills.  Have a look at our pictures below.

This week we have celebrated ‘Book Week.’  All week we have been looking at a book called ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers.  It is about a penguin that gets lost and the boy sets out on an adventure to help find the penguin’s home.  In English we created ‘Lost’ posters and penguin fact files.  In Maths we measured the heights of penguins using cubes.  In Art we painted and printed some wondering penguin pictures in Antarctica.  We also took part in a ‘Fairy Tale’ workshop delivered by ‘Perform’ arts group which was great fun as we went on a mystical adventure!  Finally, we came back to school in our pyjamas for the ‘Bedtime Story’ with scrummy hot chocolate and biscuits.  As you can see, we have had an action packed week!

This morning a lady came into visit us from Wiltshire Council Road Safety to talk to us about how to keep ourselves safe when we are out and about.  She taught us about the importance of using a crossing and to always have our seat belts on in the car.  There is leaflet in your child’s book bag with more information.

What a brilliant first day back after the Christmas holidays!  Our new topic for this term is ‘A Step Back in Time.’  We had a topic afternoon and wrote some amazing questions about what we would like to find out about.  We built houses for dinosaurs out of Lego and went in our new role play area called ‘Three Bears Cottage.’  Have a look at our pictures below.

Our topic for terms 1 and 2 is 'Food and Farming.'

In English we have been writing instructions using capital letters and full stops.  We made jam sandwiches to help use remember our instructions.

In English we have been looking at the book Handa's Surprise.  We tasted lots of different fruit and wrote some amazing adjectives describing the fruit.  Have a look at our pictures below.

Yesterday we visited River Bourne Community Farm.  We had an amazing morning at the farm.  Listed are some of the activities that we got up to:

  • Collected eggs from the chickens
  • Weighed the chicken eggs
  • Fed donkeys and goats
  • Stroked the sheep

We saw lots of different animals and had a super morning!  Thank you to all of the volunteers for making our trip so special and exciting.  Have a look at our pictures below.

On Friday it was ‘European National Languages Day.’  Key Stage 1 explored The United States of America.  We all came into school dressed in red, white and blue.  We had super day making American stars and tasted traditional American hot dogs in the playground.

In RE we are learning about ‘Special Places.’  Mrs Peter set us the task on Thursday to look at the pictures on our clipboards and then find them in the church.  We had great fun and learnt about the special parts of the church.

We had a busy day on Monday as we planted our own beans.  We thought carefully about what plants need to stay alive and we have been watering them every day keeping a close eye on them.  Have a look at our pictures below.
